Biography:

Early years

Dmytro Paliyev was born in 1896 in the village of A carrier near Kalush in the family of priest Ivan Paliiv and Isidora Navrotskaya. He studied at Stanislavov and Przemyśl gymnasiums, where he also attended the plat band and played in the gymnasium football team. He participated in the Great Movement of public paramilitary organizations "Falcons" and "Sich" in 1914 in Lviv. With the beginning of the First World War, he joined the Legion of Ukrainian Sich Riflemen.

Military career

Service in the Legion of Sich Archers and in the UGA

After graduating from the gymnasium in 1914, Dmytro passed the sub-chief's school and received the rank of sub-coroner. He served in the Kosh school of the SSS under the command of Ataman Myron Tarnavskyi. In October 1918, he was in Lviv, where he took part in the preparations for the November 1 uprising. Subsequently, he became the organizational referent of the Military Committee. After the retreat of Ukrainian troops from Lviv, he served as adjutant of the State Secretary of Military Affairs of the ZUNR D. Vitovskyi. Took part in hostilities in Central Ukraine as aide-de-camp to the commander-in-chief of the UGA, General M. Tarnavskyi.

Social and political activity

After the defeat of the national liberation struggle, Dmytro Paliyev continued his active activities. In 1920, he became one of the co-founders of the Ukrainian Military Organization (UVO) and was a member of the Supreme Political Collegium. Graduated from university and trade courses. In 1923, he founded the nationalist group "Zagrava" together with Dmytro Dontsov, was the editor of several publications. In 1928, he was elected ambassador to the Polish Diet. During the pacification of 1930, he was arrested and imprisoned by the Polish authorities.

After his release from prison, he continued his political activities, founded the Front of National Unity (FNE) and became its chairman. Paliyev was a critic of the accord policy of UNDO and a supporter of national solidarity and Christian moral and ethical values.

With the beginning of the Second World War, Dmytro Paliyev left for the West. He was one of the initiators of the creation of the 14th SS Weapons Division "Galichyna". As a political adviser to the division commander, he played a key role in resolving conflicts between the Ukrainian and German military.

Service in the Division

Dmytro Paliyev served in the 14th Armored Division of the SS "Halychyna" as a political adviser and head of the senior high school department. Thanks to his persistence, the division received the necessary training and maintained its combat capability during the battles near Brody in 1944.

Death

In June 1944, Dmytro Paliyev together with the SS division "Halychyna" went to the front near Brody, where he died during bloody battles on July 22, 1944.

Family

Dmytro Paliyev had brothers Omelyan and Vasyl and sister Kekilia.

Commemoration

In honor of Dmytro Paliyev, commemorative plaques were installed in Lviv and Kalush. On April 28, 2023, in the city of Kalush, Chernyakhovsky Street was renamed Dmytro Paliiv Street.
