Biography:
Danilo Nechay - a Ukrainian military figure, a Bratslav colonel, an active participant in the liberation war of 1648-1658.
Until 1648
Danilo Nechay came from the Ukrainian Orthodox nobility, own coat of arms Pobug. According to Polish researcher Weslaw Majewski, the Nechaya family, which settled in Kyiv region, came from Mstislavl region. He was probably born in Bari. He had three brothers:
- Matvii Nechai is a centurion, and later a commanding colonel of the Uman regiment.
- Ivan Nechay is a Mogilev colonel.
- Yurko Nechay - a centurion in the Mogilev regiment, captured by Muscovites in 1659 and exiled to Tobolsk in 1660.
Being brothers-in-law through Ivan's marriage to Khmelnytskyi's daughter Stepanida, the brothers exercised control over the Cossack formations of White Russia.
1648 - 1650 years
Nechay was part of the radical group of senior officers, together with Kryvonos, Hladky and Mozyreya. He took part in the conquest of Kodak by the Cossacks, in the battles of Zhovty Vody, Korsun, the sieges of Brodiv Castle, Lviv and Zamost. Organized by the Bratslav Regiment. Distinguished himself in the battles in Vinnytsia and Medzhibozh. After returning to Kyiv, he commanded the Kyiv garrison and conducted negotiations with the diplomats of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. His regiment besieged Zbarazh and played a significant role in the Battle of Zbarazh.
In 1650, together with Matvii Hladky, he captured Soroki and the then capital of Moldavia, Iași, which forced the Moldavian master Vasyl Lupul to conclude an alliance with Khmelnitsky.
1651 year
In February 1651, the 40,000-strong crown army led by Marcin Kalinovsky marched on Podillia. Nechai with his regiment (about 3,000 people) rushed to meet them. He decided to stop near Krasny in Vinnytsia region, where he was attacked and died heroically. According to Veslav Majevskyi, Nechai was captured by Kazimir Pisochynskyi and killed during a dispute over a prisoner. His body was brought to Kyiv and buried there.
Burial
According to legend, Nechai was buried in a mass grave in the village of Cheremoshny; according to recently discovered data, his body was brought to Kyiv and buried there (apparently, in one of the Kyiv monasteries).
