Biography:

Josyp (Osyp) Glukh - Uman colonel (1648-1655), an active participant in the liberation war against the invaders of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.

In the fall of 1648, after the death of Ivan Ganzhi, Glukha was appointed Uman colonel. In 1649, he participated in all the battles of the Ukrainian army against the invaders of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. In March 1651, at the head of a 10,000-strong Cossack detachment, he defeated the troops of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth near Lipovets and forced Crown Hetman Martyn Kalinovsky to lift the siege of Vinnytsia, which was defended by Colonel Ivan Bohun.

Participated in the Battle of Berestets in 1651. Together with his regiment, he caught up with the Crimean Tatars near the Blue Waters, who had left the battlefield near Berestechko and were plundering Ukraine, and defeated one of their detachments.

Together with Matvii Hladky, Lukyan Mozyrei and Adam Khmeletsky, he belonged to the Starshin opposition, which did not recognize the terms of the Bilotserki Peace Treaty of 1651 and prevented the entry of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth into Right-Bank Ukraine.

Participated in the Battle of Batoz in 1652 and the campaign of Ukrainian troops led by Tymosh Khmelnytskyi to the Principality of Moldova in 1653, in the Battle of Sirka. In January 1654, at the Pereyaslav Council, together with Colonel Ivan Bohun, he refused to swear allegiance to the Moscow tsar.

In January 1655, together with Ivan Bohun, he defended Uman against the troops of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Died of the plague during its plague.
