Biography:
Filon Jalaliy (in various sources Jelaliy, Djajaliy, Dzhejaliy, Dzhelyy, Dzhelyy, Dzheley, Dzheley, Dzhelyy, Dzhajala, Dzhadzhalih, Dzhadzhalik, Dzhulay, Dzyalak, Dzhdzhalik) - a Ukrainian military figure of Crimean Tatar origin, a colonel from Prylutskyi, Cherkasy, and Kropyvnya , a diplomat, one of the outstanding commanders of the War of Independence, an associate of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi.
As researchers believe, he was a Crimean Tatar by origin. As a teenager, or maybe as a child, he was captured by the Cossacks, converted to Orthodoxy and became a Cossack.
He served as a centurion in the Pereyaslav Regiment. He was one of the closest associates of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, a participant in many battles since 1648, including the Battle of Zhovtovodsk, the Battle of Korsun, the Battle of Pyliavetsk, and the Battle of Zborivsk.
Filon Jalalii took part in the Battle of Zhovtovodsk in 1648, where he led an uprising of registered Cossacks in Kamiani Zaton, which led to the transfer of registered Cossacks to the side of Khmelnytskyi.
He headed the combat support of the Ukrainian army during the Battle of Zboriv, engaged in reconnaissance and organization of advanced units. In 1649, he headed the newly created Kropyvnya regiment.
In the battle of Berestechko, he was the commanding hetman. He carried out important diplomatic assignments, in particular he headed the first embassy of Ukraine to the Ottoman Empire in 1648, where an alliance was concluded with the Ottoman Empire. In 1650, he headed the Ukrainian embassy to the Moldavian master Vasyl Lupul.
In 1654, he quarreled with Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytskyi because of his refusal to swear an oath to Muscovy after the Pereyaslav Council.
At the end of May 1659, during the conflict with Hetman Ivan Vyhovsky, Jalalii together with his regiment guarded Vyhovsky's camp when a mutiny was committed. Jalaliy died, probably during the battle of Konotop in 1659, as a colonel of the Cherkasy regiment.
