Ukrainian archives and FamilySearch are digitizing documents
On May 24, 2024, cooperation agreements between Ukrainian archives and FamilySearch International Corporation (USA) were signed in the premises of the State Archives Service of Ukraine. The ceremony was attended by the head of Ukrderzharkhiv Anatoly Khromov, his deputy Oleksandr Lashko, the representative of FamilySearch International in Ukraine Oleksandr Sichkarenko, the director of the Central State Scientific and Technical Archive of Ukraine Marat Balyshev, as well as the deputy directors of the state archives of Zaporizhzhia, Lviv and Kharkiv regions.
As part of cooperation with FamilySearch International, the Central State Scientific and Technical Archive of Ukraine plans to digitize documents from three funds for the period 1926-1991, which contain important information from the history of science.
The State Archives of the Zaporizhia Region prepared for digitization the records of civil status registration bodies for the years 1933-1947 and funds related to genealogy, in particular documents of repressive bodies, partisan commissions, judicial and land commissions and other institutions for the years 20-30 20th century.
The State Archives of the Lviv region plans to digitize funds with genealogical and biographical information, in particular criminal cases of the NKVD for the years 1939-1959, acts of civil status for the years 1940-1950, documents of educational institutions from the years 1700-1939, as well as documents of interwar state administrations for 1918-1939 years.
The State Archives of the Kharkiv region intends to digitize 10 funds with genealogical information, in particular documents of the Civil Status Records Department for the years 1919-1941, filtering cases on citizens taken to Germany, documents of the Kharkiv Spiritual Consistory for the years 1836-1918, offices of the Kharkiv of the provincial rabbi and others.
Reference: on June 2, 2020, the head of Ukrderzhakhiv Anatoly Khromov signed a memorandum of cooperation between the State Archives Service of Ukraine and FamilySearch International (USA) for the digitization of genealogical documents of the National Archive Fund of Ukraine. Since then, 26 state archives have already concluded agreements on mass digitization of such documents.
